Saying Goodbye
This past Monday I had to say goodbye to my favorite uncle. The funeral was 1 month to the day after we celebrated his 60th birthday. A week or so after his party I was home for a conference and saw him at church. Something told me that that would be the last time I would see him, but I didn't want to believe it.
Two weeks after that my cousin called me at work and my heart dropped. As soon as the kids left I hopped in my car and somehow made it to Durham. A half an hour after I got there he was gone. We as a family were around him praying and thanking God for putting him in our lives.
This has been one of the hardest things I think I've ever done. Yesterday was the first day I didn't cry in over a week so it was a good day.
There isn't a childhood memory I have that does not involve my uncle. He was an awesome man of God and never once complained. We always used to say I love you...more. He usually won.
To the man who was like a father, the one that walked me down the aisle, the one who showed me how a true man of God acts, and the one who loved me unconditionally...I love you and miss you more always.
