And I Finally Became an AKA...

I became an Alpha Kappa Alpha women November 16, 2003. A day I will never forget and and one that changed my life forever. A great change that has helped mold and shape me into the young woman I am today. I grew up in a family of Alpha Kappa Alpha women. Mom, aunts, cousins, sister, great aunts are all great AKA women. Next to my mother, one of my favorite AKAs was my Aunt Mavola. She always called my cousin and me her little AKAs and always had a special gift for us at Christmas time. I treasure those gifts from her and her support and encouragement of us as Alpha Kappa Alpha women.

Today we welcomed 15 new members into our organization. I remember being in their shoes and not knowing the work that was ahead. But I'm thankful for the opportunity to become a part of a group of women who strive for excellence and service to all mankind.

Alpha Kappa Alpha is the only way and I'm proud to say I'm an AKA!

In Loving Memory of Mavola Phuse and Dimple Newsome: True women of Alpha Kappa Alpha who paved the way for generations to follow. I aspire everyday to make them proud as a woman of AKA.
